I was surprised when I was asked in Shift PC which way I would like to buy a car.. now I understand why: on the PS3 version you can buy a car with your PSN wallet... with REAL MONEY!

Really? That's pretty shady. EA shafting you any way they can I guess.

Yeah. Especially when you know how easy it is to buy stuff on the Playstation Store. They actually keep you Credit card data and all you have to do is hit X a couple of times...

I got the impression that if I didn't buy it, it would become unlocked later. I hope.

I got stuck in Godfather I for the 360 and ended up buying 100K of various game content to help my character along. I also ponied up the three dollars for the Horse (hahahahha) Armor in Oblivion, also for the 360.

Forza 2, same thing, although if I remember correctly, some of the extra DLC was free.

I hope they don't start doing that sort of thing with patches.

Nice.

Mouse support!

I suppose it will be a whlie before the FFB is touched, but that's pretty cool nonetheless. I suspect we will be treated to excellent post-release support from SMS.

I will check out if the PS3 has a patch as well. After I watch the entire third season of Dexter, that is.

So different people seem to be having quite different experiences regarding getting the wheel set up.

Aero seems to be getting there after a bit of toil. Jon seems to have had no real issues. Mine still persist, though I must confess to still not having experimented too much nor trying Jon's suggestions.

I see exactly what Aero was talking about different cars being different (as you would expect, but not in that way). Buying my first car (Escort Cosworth: I couldn't resist laugh.gif ), I too found the throttle and brake hyper sensitive. Full revs on the start line pushing the throttle in only a tiny amount, and locking very easily. Also really bad wheel wobble around the centre point (to the point of not being able to keep it straight without real effort). As soon as I started to buy some upgrades for it, all of these issues seemed to disappear.

Having unlocked a few other races in different cars, some seem to behave perfectly from the off, whilst others seem to exacerbate my problems. I can't help but wonder exactly what the cause is here. At first I just assumed it was controller set up, but then surely that should be consistent across different vehicles? Yeah, if you have slightly sensitive steers or pedals then that could cause more of an issue driving some cars than others, but it seems a little counter-intuitive to me that as you get to more taught, precise vehicles such things should become less of an issue and not more.

What could explain it is perhaps is what parameters are being used for different cars. There are simply too many vehicles with too many permutations and options for me to think they could have realistically obtained completely accurate info for all cars, and of those included I'd have thought some would be much easier to obtain than others. I really don't know.

What I will say is this though: it's great fun; I'm loving having "my Escort Cosworth" far more than I even imagined I would; when the setup is, for whatever reason, working correctly, it feels damned nice. Also, at least for my Cossie, I'm not touching the NOS or body kits! This is going to be stripped, caged, and turboed to within an inch of its poor life laugh.gif

At first not really natural and heavy I'd say... although I had more problems with the pedals than the wheel. (had to activate ABS with the slower cars).
Better with the racing cars but for example the DB9 is undrivable for me. That's weird and confusing.
Thing is I had never really plugged the G25 to the PS3, except maybe once for Ferrari Challenge.. but for GT5P and other games I was using the old DFP... and the G25 is always way better without it being possible to say if it's thanks to the game.

Anyway, in fact after a couple of hours, you get used to it and don't really think about it. The game is quite immersive and it kinda ruins the experience if you spend hours and hours trying to find the perfect balance or reading forums.
I don't really believe the console will ever be a good environment for sim-racing: I take the game and enjoy it as it is on the PS3.... I let the tweaking for the PC (as if I had the choice!)

I was surprised this afternoon when I tried the PC version again with the Audi S3... it was just great. I will have to switch back to the Focus to see if it's car related because I had problems with it last time I've tried.

Not really easy to test these days as we have major electricity blackouts every day.

For the PS3 review, I am doing roughly 50/50 game pad/wheel, just to be fair to the 89998 million game pad users smile.gif For now, still on game pad, but even so, it drives quite well with a bit of practice, but super sensitive to any sorts of input, as to be expected from a game pad.

I will most likely switch over to the wheel this weekend and keep it there for the rest of the review. I can't wait smile.gif

The config file that Simon posted in this thread (or the other one, can't remember) is definitely worth checking out. I had to re-install so all of my old stuff is lost, but I loaded this one (actually a similar one in that thread for the DFP), and out of the box it felt pretty good. Still a little weird maybe, but I had no problem controlling the stock BMW 135i.

Nice.

Unfortunately, with the latest patch my cheat no longer works so I'm stuck back at the beginning. sad.gif

I imagine they'll come out with a new version soon. I should have backed up my savegame...
